Well,
by now most of us know
that ESP and similar so called "supernatural
phenomena" are just nonsense, fanciful thoughts that there is
no scientific evidence of whatsoever. Some of us even know beyond
any reasonable doubt that there is no soul for that matter, and that
those who believe in this are just fools who are unwilling or incapable
of accepting the real nature of the world as science has revealed
it. We know this with the same dignity (and on pretty much the same
grounds, namely our own conviction) that we once knew that the world
was flat, and at the centre of the universe. Then later on, when we
knew that that world was round, we still knew it lay at the centre
of the universe. And then we knew there were a fixed number of celestial
bodies, we had known that since Aristotle's days, so there was no
need to look into a "telescope" to see if there was anything
revolving around Jupiter, because there couldn't be. Then later on,
when we knew that the sun was the centre of our system and that there
were several more celestial bodies than we previously knew there were,
we realised that it wash the invisible arm of gravity alone that held
everything together. Then later we knew that it was actually that
mass bends space which accounts for the fact that the planets don't
tumble into the sun or break free...
But
all that is beside the point, because we were wrong then,
but we are right now. Science, after all, only gets better, and we
have far better reasons to believe what we hold to be the truth than
in the old days. And quite frankly, extra-sensory perception, mind-over-matter,
consciousness without a brain and reincarnation are a bit too ludicrous
to take seriously. There is no reason to look into something that
we know beyond any doubt to be impossible (just as there was no reason
to look into a telescope at the moons of Jupiter, because there couldn't
possibly be any such things). There is no point in looking for something
that doesn't exist. End of story. But what if we are wrong again?
After all, if the history of science has anything to tell us it is
this: we have always been wrong. Scientific observation has always
had the last laugh, always observes something it was not supposed
to have observed.
So,
what if there is evidence of ESP and reliable observations
of mind-over-matter? What if there is research that shows that healing
works and that there is biological evidence of reincarnation? What
if there actually is a scientific foundation for what we sometimes
refer to as our soul? What if we, just like all the generations who
has walked this earth before us, are wrong in assuming that the predominant
beliefsystem of our time, scientific reductionism, is the whole truth
and nothing but the truth?
This site is mainly an introduction
to the book Beyond Death, but to a lesser degree also an attempt to
introduce some contemporary research into the workings of consciousness,
specifically non-local consciousness. It is my hope that this site,
along with the book, will help in some way to bring about a more up
to date (and closer to the truth) view of consciousness and its role
in the universe as we know it.
